Racism has become a very sensitive and crucial topic which has to be taken into consideration. The act of making people different from one another is one of the many reasons why wars, bullying and other gruesome acts have accelerated. Dark people are not accepted and are targeted by the majority of the people as criminals, whereas, Pakistani’s are seen as terrorists by almost every country. The idea that we all have the same blood and flesh no longer exist; it is the color that defines you in today’s world. Multiculturalism is at the time described as a “salad bowl” and “cultural mosaic”.

Multiculturalism defines the existence, acceptance or promotion of multiple cultures in our society. This takes place when a jurisdiction is formed or spread by amalgamating vicinities with two or more cultural differences, or through immigration from different countries around the world. The multicultural ideologies and policies vary widely, from the advocacy of equal respect to the various cultures in a society etc.

There are two different strategies which have been formed through different government policies and tactics. The first strategy emphasizes on communication between various cultures, this is called interculturalism. The second approach focuses on diversity and cultural authenticity which can at times give birth to interculturalism competition.  With the help of cultural isolation, the uniqueness of the local culture can be protected, and also help to diversify the culture globally. The second policy is applied by not focusing one specific ethnic, religious or cultural community values.

On the other hand, many theorists focus their arguments on immigrants who are ethnic and religious minorities, minority nations and indigenous peoples. Much of criticism regarding multiculturalism revolves around the fact that whether or not public multiculturalism is the correct way to deal with diversity and immigrant integration.

Since 1970s multiculturalism has been the official policy in several Western nations, much of the reason is that many of the Western worlds are increasingly made of a mosaic of cultures. In a descriptive sense many nation-states in Africa, Asia and America are culturally diverse.

During the premiership of Pierre Elliott Trudeau in the 1970s and 1980s multiculturalism was adopted as the official policy in Canada. In 2002 Karim al-Hussaini the 49th Aga Khan of Ismaili Muslims in an interview with “Globe and Mail” described Canada as, “the most successful pluralist society on the face of our globe”, citing it as “a model for the world”.

After Canada Australia was next to take in an official policy of multiculturalism, keeping in mind that Australia had the same immigration situations and policies as Canada.
